PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable ashtray convenient to carry, good in handleability, and easy and sure in closing operation for ensuring cigarette ash contained not to leak out. SOLUTION: This portable ashtray is characteristic in being made up of a container 4 of synthetic resin provided with an opening 2 for cigarette ash on the upper face and also provided with a holder 3 for both cigarette ash and butts communicating with the opening 2 and a U-shaped cover 5 of synthetic resin for opening/closing the opening 2; wherein the container 4 represents a flat angular tray form 23 which has the holder 3 with guide groove holes on the lower part and an ash cutoff part 1 on the upper face, and the U-shaped cover 5 functions to open/close the holder 3 through sliding on the flat angular tray form 23 and has a projected stripe 25 functioning to guide the guide groove holes and represents a flat sliding plate frame form 26 nipping the flat angular tray form 23 through elastic force.
