<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the contrast of an image by using the γ curve more appropriately. <P>SOLUTION: An amount of correction calculation section 114 calculates the amount of correction of intensity of each pixel of an input image by using a γ curve which is calculated at a γ curve calculation section 112. The amount of correction calculation section 114 also calculates the gain for each pixel based on the color information of each pixel of an input image which is calculated at a color information calculation section 113 by using a gain curve generated at a gain curve generation section 111. Furthermore, the amount of correction calculation section 114 corrects the amount of correction of each pixel by using the gain thus calculated. A correction section 115 corrects the intensity of each pixel of an input image by using the corrected amount of correction.
