The invention relates to a glass plug for sealing bottles, said glass plug comprising a plug part (4) that engages with a bottle mouthpiece (1), a head part (3) that is connected to the plug part (4), and a sealing element and being characterized in that the glass plug is intended for bottles having a mouthpiece having an actual inlet diameter of X mm + 0.5 mm and in that an area adjacent to the head part and used to accommodate the sealing element has an outside diameter of approximately (X-4) mm ± 0.5 mm, wherein X is greater than 10 mm.
