1,100,657. Contacts for two-part couplings. AMP Inc. 5 Oct., 1965 [8 Oct., 1964], No. 42116/65. Heading H2E. A receptacle for a tab or pin formed from a spring-tempered sheet metal stock comprises a pair of inwardly - converging contact blades 1 and a pair of flexible sidewalls 3, which are rigidly connected together at only their ends, so that if the tab or pin is slightly misaligned when inserted, it moves the mouth of the receptacle laterally to more nearly align the tab or pin. As shown, the sidewalls are connected at the mouth end by a web 4, a web 5 at the other end is soldered or crimped to a post 8 and the walls are formed with stops 6 so that when the tab or pin engages one of the blades, the end 2 of the blade abuts stop 6 to cause the receptacle to bend about bowed portions 7. The blades may alternatively have outwardlydirected ends that engage the sidewall directly, Fig. 4 (not shown). In a further form, Fig. 6 (not shown), the mouth has rigid inclined surfaces (14) to engage the tabs or pins. A series of receptacles die-stamped from a single metal blank may be formed for use with an automatic crimping machine. |
