[Also in Division G3] A numerically controlled short bed lathe comprises a frame 11 supporting a headstock 12 and a longitudinal slide 14 on which a cross-slide 15 is movable in a transverse direction. Tool-holder carriers 16 are indexed in position by pins 17. A tool-holder 19, which is provided with a cutting tool 18, is preadjusted to unit dimensions off the lathe. A chuck 13 is driven through gearing by a motor 20. The carriers 16 are rapidly traversed and rapidly or finely fed by a motor 22 through a gearing 21. It is stated that the individual tool holders can be replaced by a capstan or turret for a plurality of tools. The numerical control sequence is derived by analysing a drawing 1 to produce punched cards 2 which are processed in a computer, programmed by cards 4, to prepare a punched tape 5. The tape is read by reader 5 of a numerical control arrangement 9 wherein desired position signals are compared with actual position signals. |
