Joining the ends (1)(2) of fabric-reinforced laminated rubber conveyor belts, either for fabricating new endless belts or for inserting new lengths where a section has had to be removed because of damage to the conveyor and/or drive surface, in which the usual method whereby each end is cut to form overlapping tongues and the resultant Z-shaped joint reformed by cold or hot vulcanising, is replaced by a method in which the intermediate rubber layer between the reinforcing plies (5a) (5b) and (5a')(5b') is removed and replaced by a section of fabric reinforced rubber (15). The total length (1 + 1' + 1") of the rubber intermediate layer replaced is at least equal to the finished belt width. No point of weakness at Z shaped joint. |
