[Also in Division C7] An electrode producing copper-nickel-chromium welds and overlays comprises a metallic core containing, by weight of the core and a coating of a flux together with a binder, the flux containing, by weight of the flux For welds 1 inch, or more, in thickness, the contents of chromium and silicon are preferably correlated as follows interpolation being used for intermediate values. The binder may be sodium silicate (10-20%, by weight of flux). The silicon and titanium additions are preferably made in the form of nickel-silicon and nickel-titanium alloys. The chromium is preferably added to the flux as electrolyte chromium powder. An electrode of the invention may be used for welding together copper-nickel-chromium alloys containing 2À4 to 3À8% Cr and 24-38% Ni or for welding such an alloy to a chromium-free copper-nickel alloy. The Specification refers to the welding of various workpieces having contents including |
