[Also in Division A3] Apparatus for moulding a cushion sole consisting of upper and lower sheets with a polyurethane foam interliner therebetween, the polyurethane foam being formed by reaction in situ and being bonded directly to the upper and lower sheets, includes a mould block 82 which is movable between a charging station and a moulding station. The mould block 82 is movable along rails 72, 74 and at the charging station as shown in Fig. 6 the lower sheet 16 is placed in the mould cavity 84 and is held therein by vacuum and a charge 112 of polyurethane foam forming mixture is fed into the mould cavity 84 through a nozzle 116. The mould block 82 is then moved to the moulding station. The material for the upper sheet 14 is fed from a roll 70 and is clamped between frames 132, 134 in a position above the mould block 82 when it arrives at the moulding station. A mould closing member 164 is then lowered and the mould block 82 is electrically heated to react the polyurethane foam forming material. The cover 164 and frames 132, 134 are then raised and the cushion sole is stripped from the mould and the top sheet 14 is trimmed. The upper sheet 14 may be polyvinyl chloride, polyester polyurethane or synthetic rubber and is preferably permeable e.g. a crushed P.V.C. foam. The lower sheet 16 may be a fibre or composition insole board, leather, foamed P.V.C., synthetic rubber or a polyurethane. |
