An apparatus for peeling fruit and root crops, particularly potatoes, comprises a vessel having at least one pair of rotatable discs 4, 4<SP>1</SP> at its bottom in a substantially horizontal plane, the upper surfaces of said discs being formed or provided with cutting or abrading means. Platforms having cutting or abrading means thereon 7, 7<SP>1</SP> may also beprovided substantially coplanar with the upper surfaces of the discs. The discs may be driven as shown by an electric motor 8 mounted on the cover coupled by shafting to a common drive wheel, the shafting being arranged so that the coupling is broken when the cover is removed and vice versa. Alternatively, (Fig. 3, not shown) a water driven turbine may be mounted below the discs, or the machine may be coupled to a domestic electrical machine secured to the cover, or by a flexible drive. The discs 4, 4<SP>1</SP> may slope relatively or be slightly up-dished.</p> |
