1,195,835. Unsaturated polyester composition. ROTUNDA Ltd. 5 July, 1967 [6 July, 1966], No. 30247/66. Heading C3P. [Also in Division B2] A thermosetting pressure-sensitive adhesive composition comprises as essential ingredients at least one oil resistant synthetic elastomer; an unsaturated polyester; a polymerizable solvent for the polyester which is an unsaturated monomer or low molecular weight polymer ; and a tackifier resin. The composition may also comprise a cross-linking agent, e.g. a phenolblocked isocyanate adduct or a peroxide catalyst, e.g. benzoyl peroxide. Esters are preferred as solvents, e.g. diallyl phthalate and trimethylol propane trimethacrylate. In the example the composition comprises : a medium high acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer containing carboxylic groups introduced by copolymerization, trimethylol propane trimethacrylate, diallyl phthalate, an unsaturated polyester resin derived from propylene glycol, glycerol, isophthalic acid, and maleic anhydride and containing hydroquinone and zinc stearate, pentaerythritol ester of hydrogenated rosin, a phenolblocked isocyanate adduct, 2,2-methylene-bis- (4-ethyl-tertiary butyl phenol) and a mixture of acetone and methyl ethyl ketone. A glass cloth is coated on both sides and the polyester crosslinked using a catalyst such as benzoyl peroxide. |
