Spent HCl pickle liquor contng. FeCl2 is contacted with cation exchange resin in H form to replace Fe++ by H+; the exchanger is regenerated by contacting with a complex sulphonic acid soln. (reaction product of SO2, H2O and water-soluble aldehyde or ketone) to replace Fe++ by H+ and give ferrous sulphonate effluent which is heated to recover regenerant aldehyde or ketone and SO2 for recycling, leaving ferrous sulphite as residue. |
