In an arrangement for varying the operating characteristics (e.g. cut-off point) of a brake pressure control valve 10 in dependence on the loading of a vehicle, the force applied to a movable member 23 to determine the operating characteristics of the valve 10 is controlled by a cantilever spring 44 acting through a rotatable sleeve 42 having a radial arm 42A bearing on the member 23, the end 44a of the spring 44 being clamped in a transverse bore in the sleeve 42 by an axially displaceable pin 43 having a transverse bore aligned with that of the sleeve 42. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the sleeve 42 is rotatably mounted between parallel arms 41A of a bracket 41 to which the valve 10 is secured. Two cantilever control springs 46 are provided, their ends being clamped by tightening grub screw 71 to cause relative displacement of the sleeve 42 and pin 43. In modifications, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), only one control spring is provided, the reaction due to the second spring end 44B in Fig. 2 being obtained from a transverse pin (72) or a head (73) on the pin (43). As shown in Fig. 5, the central part of the sleeve 42 is keyed to the pin 43 and the end portions 42B and 42C are axially displaceable by screws 71 to clamp the spring ends 44A and 44B respectively. |
