The colling tower, esp. for a large-scale power station, comprises a flue sheath unit (1) in the form of an air-supported hanger-type structure or captive balloon, with a flow channel passing through it from bottom to top. If necessary, this is assembled from individual elements. It is displaceable relative to the heat exchangers (8) which are on a stationary mounting, being movable and/or adjustable for slope or height, on flexible connecting (4) and sealing elements, or other peripheral bonds. It may be partially or wholly fitted for filling with hot air, or other light gas.
