The synchronous torque-governor is used on drive shafts etc. and incorporates a single drive-roller (1). The axis of the roller is parallel to the common axis (0) of the interhousing drive (2) and driven wheels (3), with a sprung slide (4) applying the roller to the bore surface (7) of the driven wheel. Springs (5) are set prior to assembly, and the roller is located by a bell-mouthed recess (6) during drive transmission. The roller rides out of the recess when the specified torque is reached. The springs (5) may act through journals (14) to maintain the concentricity of wheels (2,3). Relative rotation of the wheel at specific torque may cause the ring (10) to ride up the ramp (12) and produce an appropriate signal.
