PURPOSE:To diffuse clad and rust deposited at the bottom part of a replacement piping or a vessel and to detect thereby the level of liquid easily and surely by providing ultrasonic sensors for cleaning having a prescribed transmission frequency near an ultrasonic sensor for measurement. CONSTITUTION:The ultrasonic sensors 8, 8 for cleaning whose transmission frequency is 0.1-0.5MHz are provided on both sides and in the vicinity of the ultrasonic sensor 4 for measuring the level of liquid. By these sensors 8, the clad and rust 6... deposited at the bottom of pipe 1 are diffused in the liquid and thereby the sure ultrasonic detection of the level of liquid free from the effect of the deposited clad and rust is conducted with ease. The same effectiveness can also be obtained by transmitting ultrasonic waves for cleaning in the inclined direction or by using the ultrasonic sensor for measurement also as the ultrasonic sensor for cleaning by changing the transmission frequency.
