<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus performing gray-level correction while maintaining a real-time property and accurately recognizing the feature of contents obtained from an image signal. <P>SOLUTION: On the basis of a luminance information value Yi, a content feature decision part 10 decides the feature of one frame of video contents, and obtains a content feature decision information value Ji. A multiple content feature detection part 11 analyzes content feature decision information value Ji equivalent to predetermined claims at a decision speed based on a decision speed information value Si and obtains a multiple content feature decision value Fi. A decision speed adjustment part 3 calculates the decision speed information value Si considered to be optimum for the change process of contents and categories on the basis of the content feature decision value Ji and the multiple content feature decision value Fi.
