The present invention relates to springs for using with an innerspring assembly for cushioning articles such as mattresses. Provided is an innerspring assembly including a plurality of spring coils, wherein at least one spring coil has an upper spring portion (704) with a first substantially linear spring rate and a lower spring portion (710) disposed below the upper spring portion with a second substantially linear spring rate, wherein the supporting layer separates the upper spring portion (704) from the lower spring portion (710), and the height of the upper spring portion (704) is less than the height of the lower spring portion (710), and the second substantially linear spring rate of the lower spring portion (710) is greater than the first substantially linear spring rate of the upper spring portion (704), and wherein the spring coil, in response to a load, undergoes compression with the first substantially linear spring rate at the most compression area and with the second substantially linear spring rate at the rest compression area, wherein the spring coil is configured to be compressed with the first substantially linear spring rate of the upper spring portion (704) in a wider range of loads applied compared to the compression with the second substantially linear spring rate of the lower spring portion (710). |
