PURPOSE:The reaction between a trichloromethyl alkyl carbonate and acetaldehyde is carried out in an organic solvent in the presence of a tertiary amine and an alcohol to enable the high-yield production of the title compound of high purity, which is used as a starting compound of agricultural chemicals and medicines. CONSTITUTION:The reaction of a trichloromethyl alkyl carbonate of formula I (R is straight-chain alkyl) with acetaldehyde is carried out in an organic solvent such as chloroform in the presence of a tertiary amine such as pyridine and an alcohol of the formula: R'OH (R' is same as R) to give the objective compound of formula II. The alcohol such as ethanol is added to a mixture containing the trichloromethyl alkyl carbonate, acetaldehyde and the teriary amint to enable the industrially easy production of the objective compound of high purity. The amount of the alcohol is 1.0-2.0 times the molar amount of the trichloromethyl alkyl carbonate. |
