809,879. Bending glass sheets. LIBBEYOWENS-FORD GLASS CO. Dec. 27, 1956 [Dec. 27, 1955], No. 39264/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 56. A glass sheet is lowered. in a vertical plane into a liquid bath (e.g. of molten aluminiumsilicon alloy) kept at a high temperature. When the sheet is sufficiently soft it is bent to the desired shape by means of co-acting solid mould members that are carried in the bath. The bent sheet is then removed and either slowly cooled by passage through a lehr or rapidly cooled by air blasts. The liquid of the bath, which is such as will not mar the glass surfaces, forms cushioning films between the glass and the mould members. |
