983,320. Furniture joints. DEXION Ltd. Feb. 21, 1963 [March 5, 1962], No. 8421/62. Heading A4W. [Also in Division E1] Tapering spigots 15 of connecting piece 14 are a force fit in plastic sleeves 1 which are thus expanded to grip within metal tubes 10, preferably of square cross-section. The sleeves may be formed as four separate wedges or, the wedges may be joined at their outer ends by flexible bridges, which allow them to be folded into tubular form (Fig. 1 and 2, not shown). The centred block of the connecting piece 14 and the corresponding co-planar spigots 15 are split longitudinally into two halves, each half being die-cast separately in the form of a hollowed-out shell. Five differently shaped halves may be associated with one another in different ways to give all possible combinations of from two to six spigots. Shelf supporting plates (Figs. 4 and 8, not shown) may project from the completed joints. |
