A solid bridged thermoplastic polymer of structure P-HN-O2S-Z-SO2-NH-P wherein P is a stereoregular polypropylene radical and Z is an organic radical free of hindering groups, is prepared by heating a stereoregular polymer of propylene and from 0.1 to 0.8 mole, per mole of polypropylene, of a sulfonazide R(SO2N3)x, wherein R is an organic radical inert to bridging reactions and x is an integer of from 2 to 8. An elastomeric hydrocarbon polymer such as polyisobutylene or ethylene-propylene-dicyclopentadiene terpolymer, also may be present. In examples, the sulfonazides used are a mixed sulfonazide of a chlorinated alkyl hydrocarbon containing an average of 11 carbon atoms, 2 chlorine atoms and 2 sulfonazide groups per molecule, and 1,10-decane-, 1,10-octadecane, 1,8-octane- and 1,3 - benzene - bis(sulfonazides). 4,41 - Thiobis (3 - Me - 6 - t - Bu - phenol) is used as stabilizer. |
