<p>Products consisting essentially of salts of aliphatic carboxylic acids having more than 12 carbon atoms with biguanides N-substituted with an aliphatic radical of more than 12 carbon atoms are prepared by reacting at over 100 DEG C. one mol. of a hydrohalide of a primary aliphatic amine containing more than 12 carbon atoms with 0.8 to 1.5 mols. of dicyandiamide, dissolving the product in a C1- 8 alcohol, neutralizing the halogen hydracid at below 50 DEG C. with an equivalent amount of caustic alkali liquor, filtering off the alkali halide and reacting the resulting solution with 0.5 to 2.5 equivalents of aliphatic carboxylic acid having more than 12 carbon atoms and concentrating the product in vacuo at a temperature below 100 DEG C.ALSO:Vegetable tanned or combined chrome 1 vegetable tanned leathers are waterproofed by impregnation with products consisting essentially of salts of aliphatic carboxylic acids having more than 12 carbon atoms with biguanides N-substituted with an aliphatic radical of more than 12 carbon atoms, or with compositions containing such salts in admixture with a neutral mineral, vegetable or animal oil or fat not containing sulphonic acid groups, or a wax. A preferred component is petroleum jelly.</p> |
