PURPOSE:To form meticulous color images having good gradation characteristics and reproducibility by subjecting the surface of a developer carrying member to lap development by utilizing the image forming method forming many microclosed electric fields on the surface of this member. CONSTITUTION:Dielectric parts and conductor parts coexist in microareas on the surface of the developer carrying member 20. The toner 60 carried by a supplying member 40 is electrostatically charged by friction and is electrostatically stuck to the dielectric parts of the developer carrying member 20. The toner on this developer carrying member 20 is splashed to the surface of an electrostatic latent image carrying member (not shown in Fig.) by which the latent image is developed. Further, the electrostatic latent image carrying member carrying this toner image is subjected to electrostatic charging and image exposing and is subjected to the development in superposition on the previous toner image by the toner 60 of the different color. The toner, the coloring power of which at 0.5mg/cm<2> when the toner is made into a thin film is <=75% of the coloring power at 1.0mg/cm<2> and the transmittance of which at 1.0mg/cm<2> is >=50%, is used as the toner 60. The coloring agents having <=4.5mum dispersion diameter are used. |
