1,227,019. Rolling. SOC. NOUVELLE SPIDEM. 10 Oct., 1968 [10 Oct., 1967], No. 48171/68. Heading B3M. A roll of a rolling mill is controllably bent by applying axial forces to the end faces of the two roll journals. The forces are applied by hydraulic pistons 12 located in discs 9 which are coupled together by tie rods 15. The pistons act through semicircular plates 5 positioned above and below the roll neutral axis. The differential pressure applied to the upper and lower plates results in a desired bending of the roll. A common fluid supply is provided for the pistons 12 and members 5, and a sealed casing 24 allows leaked fluid to be returned to the system. An enlarged end may be provided for each roll journal, the end being suitably polished to give a bearing surface. The bending apparatus can be applied to the rolls of a two or four high mill. |
