A detergent composition comprises an oxygenliberating bleaching agent coated or encapsulated with material that dissolves, disperses or melts in wash liquor above 50‹ C. and below 85‹ C. together with one or more enzymes that are free, or coated or encapsulated with material that dissolves, disperses or melts in wash liquor below 50‹ C. The bleaching agent may be solid (e.g. sodium perborate) or liquid (e.g. hydrogen peroxide). When solid it may consist of coated particles or may be wrapped in small packets of the coating material. Liquid bleaches are encapsulated. Suitable coating materials are fatty acids (e.g. palmitic, stearic or arachidic acids), their mono-, di- or tri-glycerides, or paraffins or waxes. For example an 80/20 mixture of hardened palm and palm kernel oils is used as coating material to release sodium perborate at about 50‹ C.; a mixture of 25% paraffin wax, 25% carnauba wax and 50% ozokerite gives release at 60‹ C.; and behenic acid monoglyceride at 70‹ C. The enzyme is preferably a protease, and may be coated with, e.g. sugar, non-ionic surface active agents, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, or polyvinyl alcohol. The compositions may include anionic and/or non-ionic surface active agents, organic and inorganic builder salts (e.g. sodium tripolyphosphate, silicate or sulphate), soil suspending agents, optical brighteners, colouring agents and perfumes. |
