1,156,171. Papermaking. KIMBERLY-CLARK CORP. 1 April, 1966 [8 April, 1965], No. 14426/66. Heading D2A. A stock-inlet device for papermaking machines comprises a conduit connected with a discharge passage through a number of openings and a cavity. The discharge passage is an open-ended slot formed between two closely spaced parallel walls, the openings have a length greater than their width and act to change the direction of flow of stock through substantially a right angle, and the cavity gradually tapers from a wide portion at the end receiving stock from the opening to a portion at the discharge end of substantially the same thickness as the discharge passage. As shown, a round conduit 26 (shown in section) extends across the machine and communicates through openings 30, slightly flared at their downstream ends 30a, with a tapering cavity 31, and a narrow passage 43. In modifications (Figs. 5-8, not shown) the openings 30 are replaced by narrow slots. The device of the invention may be used with the papermaking machines of Specifications 1,127,025 and 1,030,900. |
