PURPOSE:To provide a means preventing the power waste when a machine frame is left with a handle kept steered. CONSTITUTION:In an electric power steering device, a running operation detecting means 9 detecting whether the running operation is under way or not and a loading operation detecting means detecting whether the loading operation is under way or not are connected to a control circuit. The control circuit sends a stop signal to a motor driving circuit 8 to stop the drive of a motor 5 when it judges that a handle 2 is held at the steering state and the running operation and loading operation are not performed for a preset period or longer based on detection signals from a torque detecting means 1 detecting the steering torque, the running operation detecting means 9 and the loading operation detecting means.
