A cathode ray tube photographic typecomposing machine 1-8, Fig. 1, records characters on a film 10 fed for line-spacing movement by rollers 11, 12 past cutters 13 and through a guideway 14 to developing apparatus 16 and drying apparatus 32. Rollers 15 feed the film into the developing apparatus at a constant speed. If the recording is too fast, the film collects in the guideway in waves andpresses against a plate 44, Fig. 2, to close a contact 20 and temporarily stop the recording. If the recording is too slow, the film is stretched against a spring 48 to close a contact 22 and operate the cutters 13, after the rollers 12 have fed the recorded part of the film past the cutters. While there is film in contact with a roller 40, a contact 41 is closed and pins 43 are closed to prevent a further part of the film from entering the developing apparatus, but lightly enough so as not to impede the passage of a film already present. |
