[Also in Division G2] Novel azo-substituted quinoline and benzthiazole compounds of the formulµ II to VI wherein R is trihalomethyl radical and R 1 is a halo or C 1-6 alkyl radical, are obtained by diazotizing the appropriate o-halo acetamido quinolines or benzthiazoles and treating the products with sodium acetate. The o-haloacetamido quinolines and benzthiazoles used as starting materials may be obtained by halogenating the corresponding acetamido quinaldines or 2-methyl benzthiazoles. 6-Acetamido-2,8-dimethyl quinoline may be prepared by reducing 2,8-dimethyl-6-nitroquinoline to 6-amino-2,8-dimethylquinoline and acylating this with acetic anhydride. The compounds of the above formula may be used in light-sensitive compositions (see Division G2). |
