Grisorixine, of molecular formula C43H68O10 and having a similarity to polyetherin A, is an antibacterial, antifungal antibiotic and shows cytostatic activity against the La cells. It has herbicidal activity at 0.2% in water and inhibits germination of most seeds. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (mu g/ml) quoted include, Candida albicans 20. B. subtilis 0.1, Staph. aureus 0.4, Microsporium canis 50. Prepared by fermentation of an unidentified streptomycete. and solvent extracted from the myceluim, Purification by chromatography on silica gel.
