1307532 Polymer treating process IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 July 1970 [18 Aug 1969] 41060/69 Heading D1P A process for the application of treating agents to polymeric materials comprises the steps in succession of treating the polymeric material with a stable deflocculated dispersion in an organic liquid of a treating agent in fine particle size i.e. less than 25 microns and subsequently removing the organic liquid. Examples of the polymeric material are natural cellulosic fibres, regenerated cellulose fibres, cellulosic esters, natural protein fibres, synthetic polyamides, polyesters, polyurethanes and polyolefins. The treating agent may be a fluorescent or optical brightening agent e.g. sodium salts of bis-triazinylaminostilbene disulphonic acids, flame proofing or flame retarding agents e.g. antimony trioxide of mixtures of boric acid and borax, latent acid catalysts such as are used to cure the resins and to confer anticrease properties e.g. zinc and magnesium chlorides. Other treating agents which may be employed are antistatic and soil prevention and release agents, e.g. condensates of ethylene oxide with polyamides and crystallisable polyesters containing polyoxyalkene groups, textile softening agents e.g. fatty quaternary ammonium salts and desizing agents e.g. enzyme preparations. The dispersion of the treating agent in the organic liquid contains as deflocculating agent a polyurea which is essentially free from basic amino groups and which contains at least two urea groups and at least two alkyl, alkyenyl or alkapolyenyl groups each of which contains at least 8 carbon atoms. |
