Azo dyes which are free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups are prepared by coupling a diazotized 3-amino-2,1-benzoisothiazole of formula with a coupling component of formula H-R-X-Y in which formulµ the ring A may contain substituents other than sulphonic and carboxylic acid grcups, R is an aromatic-carbocylic radical, X is a bridge member and Y is an ammonium group. The bridge member X is generally an alkylene-amino or acylamino group especially those of formula in which R 1 is H, or alkyl (C 1-12 ) which may be substituted, m is 0 or 1, n is 0 or 1. The group Y may contain any substituent especially alkyl (C 2-5 ) and heterocyclic rings may be formed by two alkyl groups fused together. |
