<p>The vortex chamber, esp. circular, has a coaxial lower inlet and upper outlet for gas-6iquid mixture which is injected axially or tangentially so that it has a spiral path. A number of axial slots, esp. four, is placed in a ring around the wall and each has a baffle plate on its trailing edge which protrudes into the chamber at an angle and points into the direction of rotation of the vortex. Each plate fills the height of its slot and this height is determined by the pitch of the spiral vortex and by the number of slots. Used esp. for preliminary drying of the steam output of a cyclone separator it introduces a very low pressure drop. Esp. used in nuclear reactors.</p> |
