PURPOSE:To enable printing with gradation by consisting a single pixel using adjoining plural thermal resistors and controlling the number of thermal resistors which generate heat in each pixel. CONSTITUTION:An insulation layer 16 is coated on a common electrode 14 and a groove is provided along the longitudinal direction of a substrate on the insulation layer 16. Along this groove, thermal resistors 20 are patternized in two rows with one end of the thermal resistor connected to the common electrode through the groove and the other to a selected electrode 22 respectively. Four adjoining thermal resistors 20, e.g. R1-R4 are included into a single pixel. A shaded part represents a thermal resistor heated through energization. If a binary signal representing an individual gradation is '1', a corresponding thermal resistor is heated through energization. On the other hand, if the signal is '0', the thermal resistor is not energized. Thus five-stage gradation is available. |
