摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely implement transfer from spray orientation to bent orientation with a liquid crystal display device which makes display by subjecting the orientation state of the liquid crystal molecules in a liquid crystal cell to the orientation described above by impressing voltage above the threshold to the liquid crystal layer. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device having two substrates 102 facing each other and the liquid crystal layer 101 gasped between the substrates is specified to <=0.7 deg. in the difference between the absolute value of the pretilt angle of the liquid crystal molecules existing near the one substrate and the absolute value of the pretilt angle of the liquid crystal molecules existing near the other substrate. The region where the liquid crystal molecules having the molecular axis horizontal with respect to the substrate plane in the liquid crystal layer 101 are maldistributed more to one substrate side than the central part of the liquid crystal layer and the regions where the liquid crystal molecules are maldistributed more to the other substrate side than the central part of the liquid crystal layer are thereby regulated to exist approximately uniformly when the voltage below the threshold is impressed to the liquid crystal layer 101.
