An integrated policy implementation service for a communication network where user authentication is integrated with QoS provisioning. The service includes an data communication switch connected to one or more policy servers. The switch transmits requests for user and device information to the end devices connected to the network. The devices respond by transmitting responses including the user and device information to the switch. The switch transmits the user and device information to the one or more policy servers for user authentication and QoS provisioning. The one or more policy servers respond by transmitting authentication information and QoS information to the switch. The switch uses the authentication information to determine whether to enable a network interface used by the user to communicate with the network. To the extent a determination is made to enable the network interface, the switch uses the received QoS information to establish a QoS on the switch. The QoS is then applied to the traffic received from the device used by the user to communicate with the network.
