A single roller or ball bearing for mounting in a pair comprises a comb cage 3 having an end face 3a substantially flush with the end faces of the races 1 and 6 or 7 and an annular recess 4. A spring ring 5 is held in the race 1 to prevent the cage and rollers from falling out in the non-mounted state of the bearing but not to contact the cage in the mounted state. The bearing is designed for mounting in a pair as shown in the Figure to support a railway vehicle axle with the cages 3 disposed back-to-back. The races 1 and 6 have roller locating flanges but the race 7 is associated with a separate flange 8. The ring 5 may be replaced by radial pins. |
