PURPOSE:To enable judgement of the identity of a reference object and an object of inspection even when a distance between an image pickup means and the object of inspection changes, regarding a gray image processor for making an identification. CONSTITUTION:While a reference image A is obtained by picking up the image of a reference object by an image pickup means, a reference distance between this image pickup means and an object of image pickup is measured and the reference image A, the reference distance and the focal distance and imaging distance of a lens of the image pickup means are stored. Next, an inspection distance between the image pickup means and an object of inspection is measured, and based on this inspection distance and the reference distance and the focal distance and imaging distance of the lens which are stored, the focal distance and imaging distance of the lens at which the object of inspection is represented as an image of the same size as the reference object in a picture are determined by computation. Based on the result of computation, moreover, the focal distance and imaging distance of the lens are changed, the image of the object of inspection is picked up to obtain an inspection image, and this inspection image and the reference image stored in a storage means are compared with each other so as to judge the identity of them. |
