[Also in Division D1] Compressed air and cleaning solution are mixed in a mixing chamber and discharged on to a spot of fabric to be cleaned, the cleaning solution, air and soil being allowed to pass through the fabric. The spotting gun (240), Fig. 7, (not shown) is connected by hose (242) to pressurised cleaning, solution tank (244) and to an air supply hose (254) controlled by a valve actuated through a switch by a foot pedal, Fig. 7, (not shown). Air supply hose (254) is controlled by a valve operated through a lever (266) and rod (280) by a foot pedal (298). Operation of pedal (298) also operates a valve (318) on vacuum tank (312) to apply a vacuum to a fitting (340) which supports a garment being spotted. The spotting gun Fig. 10 and Fig. 7 (not shown) comprises a handle (354) containing rigid tubes (358), (360) connected respectively to hoses (242) and (254) and at their other ends to tubes (362) and (364). A thumb operated member 370 of adjustable travel operates a valve stem 372 slidable in a valve housing 374. A knurled cap 378 threaded on one end of housing 374 holds a guide member 384 with a closure cap 392. A coil spring 394 engages cap 392 and the end of valve stem 372 on whose end is clamped a seal 390 to retain cleaning solvent in the bore 400 of the body 374. The other end 408 of body 374 is threaded to receive a barrel member 410 with a longitudinal bore 414 and a valve seat 418 carrying a tube 416 concentric with bore 414. Valve seat 418 is engaged by a sealing member 424 on the end of stem 372. The cleaning solution is fed through passage 406 to bore 400 and thence through tube 416 to bore 414. The compressed air is fed to a space 428 between member 410 and an extension 426 of housing 374 and passes through apertures 430 into bore 414. Bore 414 widens at the discharge end and carries a detachable nozzle 436 flattened at 446 to produce a slot shaped orifice. |
