1292295 Bearing BORG-WARNER CORP 28 Nov 1969 [30 Dec 1968] 58430/69 Heading F2A [Also in Division H2] An elongate electric motor, e.g. a submersible pump motor for deep wells, comprises a homogeneous annular laminated magnetic stator 15 mounted in a housing 13 and within which is rotatably mounted a shaft 21 mounting a rotor 17 formed of a plurality of spaced sections 23, and between such sections and supporting the shaft with respect to the stator are a plurality of longitudinally spaced apart bearing assemblies 25 each including a stationary journal 29 which engages the stator and is made of a non-magnetic high resistivity ceramic material, e.g. dialumina trioxide or berylium oxide. Each assembly also comprises a steel sleeve 27 secured to the shaft and having an outer cylindrical coating of the same ceramic material. An axial flow of coolant through the air gap (26), Fig. 1, passes through journal passageways 35. The journals are pressed into the stator bore, and their high resistivity is to minimize eddy currents therein. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,188,147. |
