A button cell comprises two metal cups 1 and 3 fitted one inside the other with an annular gasket 6 of insulating organic polymer between, the outer cup having its rim 2 turned in on to the gasket whilst the inner one which is surrounded by the gasket has its rim inserted in the gasket and folded back on itself at least twice. The gasket may be moulded in situ. In one embodiment, outer cup 1 is of nickelplated steel, inner cup 3 of plated metal and gasket 6 is of polyamide. Positive mass 10 of mercuric oxide or silver oxide is separated from negative mass 10 of zinc amalgam by membrane 8 of regenerated cellulose and separator 9. Metal ring 4 is a support for the gasket. Fig. 2 (not shown) represents an identical cell except that the rim of inner cup 3 is turned back on itself in the same way each time to produce a spiral rather than a zig-zag configuration. |
