A magneto-strictive transducer for measuring stress comprises an X-shaped core Fig. 4 with windings 7a, 7b, 8a, 8b on its limbs, which is moulded into a cylindrical insulating body to be inserted into a hole in a test member of magnetostrictive material with its axis parallel to the stress direction. One winding 7a, 7b is energized with A.C., the output from the other winding 8a, 8b is initially backed off electrically to zero, and any subsequent output is indicative of applied stress. Other core shapes are described and shown. |
