A sheet and strip-flattening machine comprises a frame 1 having vertical guideways spaced apart, a yoke 5 disposed between them and in engagement with said guideways, a set of lower rolls 3 carried by said yoke, a set of upper rolls 2 carried by said frame, guide means 6 extending on opposite sides of said frame, said yoke conforming to and resting on said guide means, adjusting members which carry said guide means, a saddle 16 on which said adjusting members are mounted for adjustment of said guide means relative to said saddle and a wedge 17 interposed between said saddle and said frame to adjust said saddle at high speed in a vertical direction. The guide means 6 has inclined surfaces 7 supported on wedges 9 actuated by a transverse screw 8 having screwthreads of opposite hand to provide vertical adjustment. The screw 8 is longitudinally displaceable by screw-members 12, 13 to tilt the yoke the wedges 9 being provided with arcuate guideways 15. The wedge 17 is actuated by a pneumatic or hydraulic motor not shown. |
