PURPOSE:To obtain a projection display device of a color display by one luminance amplifying optical system, by using a luminance amplifying optical system which has contained a white laser, as a light source. CONSTITUTION:A laser light which is outputted to the left from a white laser 8 passes through a lens 7, and projected to a liquid crystal light valve 6 having a picture element which is constituted of a color filter of R, G and B. A reflected light from the light valve 6 becomes a color of the color filter of R, G and B, and the respective light beams pass through the lens 7, and led into the white laser 8 again. In the white laser 8, a light amplification is executed, and the amplified light is outputted to the right side, magnified by a lens 9, and a color image on the light valve 6 is magnified and projected onto a screen 1. In such a case, as for the white laser, a hollow cathode type He-Cd<+> laser, etc. are used.
