The system for aligning batches of oblong objects (24) e.g potato chips before a bag-filling machine uses a container (12) to receive the batch. This container has a conveyor device (20) with several mutually spaced entrainment members (22) which are each in a position to take up part of the batch from the container in a first conveyor position. This batch is then moved forward on the entrainment members (22) to a second conveyor position whereby the objects (24) are aligned with their longitudinal dimensions parallel to the longitudinal axis of the entrainment member (22). The aligned parts of the bath are then discharged to a collecting container (28) in the second conveyor position and the objects received here are stored aligned with the longitudinal axis of the entrainment member. The batch is passed to the bag filling machine (34) when the collecting container (28) has received the entire batch which is to be filled into the bag. USE/ADVANTAGE - The machine can operate at high speeds and is of simple construction.
