Light alloy piston has a shell-like insert stretching the length of the bolt direction and piston axis and forming a part of the sliding surface for the piston bolt. The insert (7) consists of pressed, sintered chips of a metallic material, whose open pore vol. is filled with piston material. The width of the insert (7) is at least 20 (pref. 25-50)% of the length of the hubs (4) of the bolt eyes (5). The periphery angle of the insert (7) is 30-120 (pref. 45-86) degrees and decreases from the inner edge of the hubs (4) continuously outwards. The insert (7) is a hollow cylinder of wall thickness 3-8 mm. The chips are of a cast iron material contg. 3.5-17.5% Ni, 5.5-7.5% Cu, 1.8-2.5% Cr, 1.0-2.5% Si, 1.0-1.5% Mn, max 3% C and balance Fe; or of a steel alloy of the 42CrMo4 type; or a Cu-bronze. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for I.C. engines, esp. diesel engines. The piston material has good wear resistance.
