A pressure filter (1) consists of a housing (2) containing a filter stack (3) which is compressed by a piston in relation to the pressure of the fluid being filtered. The filtrate leaves the filter via a nozzle plate (7). The proposed innovation is that a movable distribution plate (18) is provided between the filter stack and the nozzle plate and that piston and distribution plate both move in relation to the applied fluid pressure. Pref. the filter stack has an annular cross-section and is located between the piston and an annular flange (12) on the filter housing. The piston is provided with a rod (4) which extends through the filter stack and to which the distribution plate is fixed, so that a force is applied to the piston in the direction to the annular flange. The piston and the stack are surrounded by an annular fluid inlet channel (16), and the fluid passage (19,20) is further defined by the piston rod and the filter stack, and by the distribution plate and the annular flange and nozzle plate. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for filtration of synthetic fibre materials immediately before extrusion. An even distribution of the fluid over the nozzle plate is provided under all pressure and flow conditions.
