PURPOSE:To charge a battery by automatically setting a charging voltage and current according to the type of the battery. CONSTITUTION:When charging a battery 103 on an electric car 102, a memory 104 on the electric car 102 reads out the charging conditions for the battery 103 and sends them to a charger 100 through a means of communication 105. The charger 100 controls the output voltage and current of a power source 101 by a control means 107 according to the charging conditions received by a receiver 106, thus charging the battery 103.
