The circuit includes a detector circuit (6) sensing imbalance in the positive and negative high tension supply terminal currents which can indicate current leakage through insulation failure. The current detector is connected between the positive and negative terminals of the high tension circuits and earth, and is linked on the one side to the mid-point of the battery (1) and on the other side to the earth of the low tension circuits. It is connected to a signalling circuits (7) providing a light, sound or computer based alarm when the magnitude of the current imbalance exceeds a predetermined threshold.
