Azo dyes of the formula where X is oxygen or a radical of the formula NR6, where R6 is hydrogen or substituted or unsubstituted C1-C13-alkyl, R1 is substituted or unsubstituted C1-C13-alkyl or substituted or unsubstituted phenyl, Y is hydrogen, halogen or cyano, Z is nitro or additionally cyano when Y is halogen or cyano, R2 is C1-C4-alkyl, methoxymethyl or substituted or unsubstituted phenyl, R3 is hydrogen, C1-C4-alkoxy or C1-C4-alkyl, and R4 and R5 are each substituted or unsubstituted C2-C13-alkyl or C2-C6-alkenyl, are useful for dyeing or printing synthetic materials and are synthesizable using novel dinitroaminoaromatics as diazo components.
